Wondering

I can't find the knob to turn on the heater in my dorm room. If I run my hair dryer, will my room get warmer?

Reasons

Last night Jimmy asked, "Loren, what kinds of benefits would I have if I went to the same school as my sister?" Well. Here you go:

1. I'll have my car at my house. You may not understand what these things mean to a college freshman. Trust me, this deserves to be at the top of the list.

2. We can have lunch or dinner together sometimes.

3. We can drive home together on breaks.

4. You won't just be Jimmy, you'll be "Jimmy, Loren's cool brother."

5. You can play video games with Christina and me.

6. You won't have to carry a campus map around because I will be able to show you where everything is.

7. You'll only have to miss one of your sisters.

8. You won't have to beg a ride from anyone because I'll feel like it's my responsibility to give you one.

9. I am so much fun! Why wouldn't you want to be at the same school as I am even if you weren't my brother?

10. You'll always have someone to hang out with.

Something Fun?

or maybe just overly abitious. All I know is, I spent a lot of time working on the code for my picture of the day that I just added, so you better appreciate it even if I don't actually get to it every day.

What Planet Are You From?

You Are From Mercury

You are talkative, clever, and knowledgeable - and it shows.
You probably never leave home without your cell phone!
You're witty, expressive, and aware of everything going on around you.
You love learning, playing, and taking in all of what life has to offer.
Be careful not to talk your friends' ears off, and temper your need to know everything.

Formal Pictures

Last night the MUMB headed down to Cincy for formal, and it was lots of fun. Here we are, looking all dolled up (as opposed to the typical frumpy uniform or band t-shirt)!

Go here to see the rest.
Sorry...but you'll have to log in.

Quote of the Day

Sam: "Are you trying to sound like a goat, or is that your impression of a Nazi?"

Stressed Out

I try to avoid saying, "I am so stressed right now!" because I always feel like it could be worse. But this time I really am stressed.

I wasn't being a hypochondriac the other day because I actually DO have shingles. I know what it is, so you don't have to tell me. In case you don't know, here are some facts:

  1. it is caused by stress, lack of sleep, or a depressed immune system.
  2. it's the same virus as Chicken Pox, Herpes zoster. Oh, go ahead, laugh it up, I have Herpes. But just remember, not that kind.
  3. usually, old people get it.

So evidently I need to stop worrying and start sleeping more. Cassie made me go to the health center, which was good because it probably could have gotten worse.

It was pretty ridiculous to hear the doctor say, "I know what it is. Have you been under a lot of stress lately?" I just wanted to laugh, because all week I've been making shingles jokes and hoping that nothing was really wrong. Just one of those cruelly ironic situations, I suppose.

Is this a gross thing to talk about? I'm sorry. That's enough.

Thoughts of Note

  • Ben Roethlisberger makes me want to be a Steelers fan.

  • I do not like writing papers about Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

  • Along the same lines, I hate writing feasibility reports for ENG 313.

  • I am afraid that I am suffering from the preliminary stages of Shingles.

  • I am also afraid that I am becoming a hypochondriac.

  • The Sophomore Slump is rearing its ugly head again...or maybe it just never left and I've been in denial for the past few weeks.

  • Some people need to hear this: "Everything turns out okay in the end. If it's not okay, then it's not the end." (Corny, I know. Bear with me.)

On November 2, 2004

First things first:

Hey Toledo...how about those Redhawks?

Last night was one of the best games of the season. It was a lot of fun, it wasn't hot (in fact it was freezing), and we won but it was close. Not to mention that it was the last home game which means that I HAVE NO MORE BAND. Which is nice.

Okay, now for some politicking.

Thank you if you voted for the L-P schools tax levy. I'm sure it was my stunning letter to the editor that swayed the vote.

What's the deal with Issue 1? I don't understand how it won by so many votes OR how it passed in 11 states. It's just going to make things harder for everyone.

I am surprised that Kerry didn't keep fighting. Especially since we could've turned into another Florida. I so am disgusted by Ohio's failure to NOT use the same kind of ballot that Florida used in 2000. 70% of Ohioans voted using punch-card ballots. 70%!!! All I did was fill in some circles with a pencil, and that was pretty straight-forward. Thanks, Ashland County. However, knowing the problems in Florida, knowing that each and every vote in the state would count, how could election officials decide that punch cards were the way to go? Someone enlighten me. Please. They are so, so SO lucky that Kerry's not throwing a fit. I'm not even going to get into it.

Anyway, good game, good election, good mumb season.
